In short, poetry, flash fiction, short stories and essays

This book club is run by Anne-Dorthe, who is very excited to start this latest of our book clubs!

The focus here is on short texts such as poetry, flash fiction, short stories and nonfiction texts, for example aphorism and essays.

The beauty of this kind of text is its briefness and its condensed nature where stories and meaning unfold in fewer words and fewer sentences, sometimes in just one sentence. It is as if all the unnecessary words are left out.

It is often more abstract and full of metaphors which can leave room for many different interpretations and a difference in how each text resonates with each of us and that could be the focus of our reflections.

The first book for the club will be Babara Kingsolver “How to Fly”, a collection of poems full of wisdom of life and death, and of what binds us together as humans.

The second book is Lydia Davis’ “Our Strangers”. a collection of stories that take the form of poems, short stories, lists or a single sentence, that are both thought provoking and funny.
